• Fashion news 2012: Victoria Beckham celebrates birthday with Facebook and a fruit platter

    Fashion designer Victoria Beckham joined Facebook on her 38th birthday and documented her special day on the social networking site. Surely one of the best bits about ageing another year is the excuse to indulge: big meal, a little too much booze, tucking into a big cake. Not so for Victoria Beckham, who brought in her 38th birthday with a huge… fruit platter.

    Beckham co-ordinated her big day with the launch of a shiny new Facebook page , promising to bring her followers updates about all her fashion brand's collections.

    Yesterday however, the news was all birthday-centric, with pictures of her birthday "feast", and flowers from her fashionable friends next to bunches of balloons, giving us a little flash of her and husband David's beautiful Los Angeles home (white and tasteful if you haven't seen it already).

    Fans took to the page in droves to wish the designer many happy returns, and with 101,000 followers in just one day Beckham must have been feeling the love all day safe in the knowledge that her popularity isn't on the wane. She has a long way to go before she matches her footballer husband's popularity, however - he's bringing in the Facebook bacon at a cool 17.5million followers and counting.
