Fashion news 2012: Double blow for Sydney Fashion Week as two top designers drop out
17 April 2012
Fashion news 2012 - Double blow for Sydney Fashion Week as two top designers drop out: Both Josh Goot and Dion Lee have dropped out of Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Australia to focus on the international collections.

Models wear designs from Dion Lee's autumn/winter 2013 collection, which was shown in February's London Fashion Week.
Australia's Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week took on a double blow today when two of its top designers withdrew from the schedule, just two weeks before it is due to start in Sydney.
Josh Goot and Dion Lee, both Australian designers who have showed at London Fashion Week in the past, have shocked their home fans by pulling out of the proceedings in order to fit in with the international fashion cycle:
"This is the right decision for the Josh Goot brand, business and team. We've had an amazing response to spring/summer 2012, and I think it's important that we consolidate our position, rather than rush into a new collection to show at MBFWA. The entire studio and I want to focus on the new Resort collection without the distraction of a show" Goot told Catwalk Queen .
Meanwhile Lee, who has dressed actresses Emma Watson and Rooney Mara, will be focussing on his spring/summer 2012 London Fashion Week show instead of showing in Sydney. But in his statement he payed his respects to the Australian Fashion Week, laying his newfound international success largely at its door: "I have presented solo shows at Australian Fashion Week for the past three years and each of these have been of great benefit to my business in terms of building its profile on a local and international level."
As two of the most high profile designers on a schedule that also includes Ksubi, Whitney Ports' Eve collection and swimwear brand We Are Handsome, their withdrawal will come as a huge blow but, reassuringly for Australian fashion followers, both Lee and Goot have said they hope to return to the schedule in the future.
