    11 April 2012

Fashion news 2012 - Columnist Rooney Mara’s extreme make-under details: Rooney Mara must have breathed a sigh of relief when she found out she'd won the lead role in The Bitter Pill . The film, which is due out next year and co-stars British actor Jude Law, tells the story of an anxious woman who turns to prescription medication to deal with her husband's upcoming release from prison.

This simply equates to Mara, who turns 27 next week, looking completely normal. That means no more bleached eyebrows, numerous body piercings or the dyed, cropped hair she was subjected to on one "intense" day to prepare for the role of Lisbeth Salander in the hit film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo .

Pictures of Rooney filming her latest role in New York yesterday show her looking distinctly run-of-the-mill, with subtly dip-dyed hair extensions, simple trench coat and most conservative of all: a leather-strap wrist watch. We've become so accustomed to the razor-sharp, jet-black fringe she sported with aplomb on the red carpet, that it feels odd to see Mara looking like a normal civilian.

At least she can take comfort in possessing a hidden edge - rumour has it she kept her nipple piercing so that she wouldn't have to undergo the painful procedure again for sequels to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ...
