  2009 new fashion-Hilary Alexander reports from the London College of Fashion's Postgraduate show.

  

  Manjit Deu, winner of the Collection of the Year Award at London College of Fashion 

  Menswear stole the show at the presentation of London College of Fashion’s Postgraduate collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London last night (Wednesday). Glam Rock, Rockabilly and Rock 'n' Roll were the themes dominating this peacock parade in the college’s MA catwalk show.

  Manjit Deu, 24 from Hounslow, was awarded the Collection of the Year Award, judged by the Boudicca duo of Brian Kirkby and Zowie Broach, who are the newly appointed Leathersellers’ Designers in Residence at LCF. The renowned couture designers take up their residence at the beginning of this term. Deu mixed sequins, gold lamé and metallic brocades in a Bollywood style collection for men, accompanied by equally blinged-up girls.

  Dimitri Stavrou showed a bizarre and bold rocker collection of men’s tailoring in black, gold and silver lamé, wildly fringed with matching carbon fibre – even the boots. Latex suiting and trousers accessorised with multicoloured sequinned T-shirts and trunks characterised the collection by Jie Pi, while Rohan Kale showed multicoloured patchwork, stripe and madras check suits accessorised with bow ties and fresh roses in the levels.

  The evening saw the inauguration of a new award, in association with On|Off, called On|Off reinvents. The founder and creative director of On|Off, Lee Lapthorne picked Hsiang Ju Kung, Yun Ju Ko Kate, Rohan Kale and the collection of the year winner Manjit Deu as the four winners.
