  • Fashion news 2012: Victoria Beckham Refuses To Join Spice Girls At 2012 London Olympics

    30 January 2012

Fashion news 2012: Victoria Beckham has refused to join her former band mates for Spice Girls reunion planned for the 2012 London Olympics. While other ladies are happy to take over a stage again, at least one more time, Posh is quite happy with her present reputation of a successful designer and doesn’t want to return to the activity she was not very good at.

    Spice-Girls-2012

Mel B is the one with the idea of reunion and it is she who is pushing other women to reunite. Geri Halliwell expressed her willingness to do the singing again. Mel C, who is a stage actress now and fond of sport, would like to perform in the Olympic stadium.

    She said:

The Olympics would be brilliant, but I don’t know the truth. I’d love to do something, but it would have to involve all five of us.”

However, with Victoria Beckham’s busy schedule and probably lack of desire to perform on stage the reunion is under a question.

A source close to the girls told Radar Online:

Mel B and Emma Bunton are agreeable to doing it, but the holdout seems to be Victoria Beckham. She has so much going on. And she isn’t agreeing to it – yet!”

    They added:

Mel B is pushing for it to happen. It would be an opportunity of a lifetime for the band to perform in front of a worldwide audience in front of the best athletes in their country – well, there are no words!”

  • Fashion news 2012: Halle Berry Launches Her Own Shoe Line

    30 January 2012

Fashion news 2012: Halle Berry is the latest of celebrities to launch her own shoe collection. To make her dream come true the actress teamed up with German retailer Deichmann. The range will include around 40 styles of comfy footwear featuring wedges, high heels and peep-toe pumps.

If a couple of years ago celebrities believed having their own fragrance was cool, today they all long for having their own shoe line. Following in the footsteps of Cheryl Cole, Rachel Bilson, and Jessica Simpson Halle Berry has designed a collection of sandals named the 5ths Avenue by Halle Berry.

To produce the footwear Halle Berry teamed up with German retailer Deichmann Shoes. The collection that will go on sale in March includes 40 limited edition shoes with peep toes and wedge heels, sandals with straps and high heels as well as sling sandals on wedge heels.

    halle-berry-shoe-line-2012-1

Halle Berry says creating this collection was important for her:

Women have always loved shoes. It’s like if your hair is not right and your shoes are not right, the woman is not right. If both of them are right, you’re pretty much OK.”

She also mentioned that shoes are indicative of a woman’s mood and plans:

And shoes are a statement. They can be very sexy; they can say something about where you are in the day; they can say what your mood is; they give you a chance to accessorize.”

The actress told she had sort of obsession with shoes:

And I’m a girl that loves to change my shoes all the time. It’s an expression of who you are really. I’m a girl if I find a shoe that I really like I like to get them in all colours. I’m big on that.

Hale Berry also spoke about the Deichmann commercial to promote her shoe line:

I like the concept of it. It really relates to my life and who I am as a person and what I do for a living. And I think there’s kind of a fun element to it. And it also speaks to my love of shoes.”

The German brand Halle Berry has collaborated with to create her collection of shoes is also more than happy to work with the star. The company’s owner Heinrich Deichmann said:

We are very pleased that Halle Berry is our new partner. She is an internationally renowned artist and a global style icon.”

Berry isn’t the first celebrity to sign a contract with Deichmann. Cindy Crawford, Pussycat Dolls and the Sugababes used to promote its shoes.

  • Fashion news 2012: Cheryl Cole Under Fire For Making Poor Quality Shoes

    12 January 2012

Cheryl Cole, who often goes under criticism for her style, private life and public statements, has given her ill-wishers one more reason to express their dislike. Her shoe collection, which she created under collaboration with Stylistpick brand, has been reported to be of poor quality. Several pairs have been returned already.

    cheryl-cole-shoe-2012

If you are a celebrity and design something or just say you design something and give your name to it, make sure the quality of your product is good enough because if it is not all the fire will be at you, not the people who actually made the product. Cheryl Cole seems to have been fully unaware of that as her shoe collection, which has been recently unveiled, has gone under huge criticism for its poor quality.

    cheryl-cole-shoe-2012-1

People would probably be less angry if Cheryl Cole didn’t mention she had been involved into every aspect of making shoes. But she did. Besides, dissatisfied customers remember the singer saying the ‘signature shoe’ (referring to the black studded pair of high heels Cheryl wears on our picture above) represented her. And that doesn’t characterize the star well.

Several shoppers who bought that very ‘signature’ pair had to return them to the store after discovering a fault. Stylistpick, the brand Cheryl teamed up to create the shoe collection, was immediately informed about the issue and sent out an email warning the customers about possibility of stitching on the rear to become ‘unattached’.

Sheena Smith, one of the buyers, told The Sun:

I love Cheryl Cole’s style and thought the shoes looked fantastic on the website. When I got them, there was immediately a problem with the heel. The packaging was fantastic but the quality of the shoes was awful. I was really disappointed I couldn’t wear them to my work Christmas party.”

  • Fashion news 2012: Stella McCartney launches her autumn 2012 collection in New York

    12 January 2012

Stella McCartney's in-between seasons presentations are always something to look forward to. Her autumn 2012 collection was held in New York, at One If By Land, Two If By Sea, a restaurant often voted the most romantic in the city. Models wandered around the candlelit cocktail party drinking champagne and playing pool and backgammon.

    Stella-McCartney-Pre-Fall-2012

Stella McCartney launches Pre-Fall 2012 and opens new Soho store

The roaring fires, huge bouquets of flowers, photography books and a jazz band playing in the corner, meant McCartney's presentation felt more like a convivial house party, not a stress inducing rushed runway show. There were vegan hors d'oeuvres. McCartney's autumn accessories collection - also vegan - were on display in a room overlooking a winter garden.

    Stella-McCartney-Pre-Fall-2012-1

The vignettes within the collection were inspired in turn by the history of monograms, and an equestrian theme; modern silhouettes and exquisite embroidered lace cocktail dresses in pale lemon, black and white.

    Stella-McCartney-Pre-Fall-2012-2

"This is the evening cocktail section which is a really beautiful embroidered lace, with a trompe l'oeil play as well," McCartney told The Telegraph . "For me it's really important to try and master cocktail and evening wear in a way that you actually want to wear it and you don't feel old. It's important for you to wear the clothes and for them not to wear you."

Pointing at an embroidered lace organza and chiffon cocktail dress worn by one of the models, she said, "This is a gorgeous dress, it's got sheerness, it's still very forgiving, and I wanted to play around with colour combination.

"For me it's just very luxurious and it's got grown-up touch to it but it's still very contemporary. The silhouettes are quite modern, they are not in your face but you still have enough to talk about. It's important as a woman if you are going to something you want to stand out - but you don't want to scream out."

2012 will be an extremely busy year for McCartney. She calculates she'll be putting on about a show a month, including a collection as part of London Fashion Week (the British fashion industry would dearly love to see McCartney abandon Paris for her main line collections.)

Will McCartney return to London for good? At this, she neatly changes the subject to point out the embroidered monograms on an electric blue structural jacket passing by on a model.

And what of her designs for the London Olympics Team GB's uniforms? "I am really excited about it, but as we get closer to it we can talk more," she demurs.

  • Fashion news 2012: Kate Beckinsale morphs into Victoria Beckham

    12 January 2012

Fashion news 2012 - Kate Beckinsale morphs into Victoria Beckham: Hollywood actress Kate Beckinsale channels close friend Victoria Beckham's glamorous aesthetic from head to toe.

    Kate-Beckinsale-New-York-2012

Kate Beckinsale pixtured leaving her hotel in New York on January 10, 2012

They are thought to be great friends, and as Brits residing in Los Angeles with young families as well as regulars on the red carpet, (heck, they even share a 'Beck' in their surnames) the similarities between Kate Beckinsale and Victoria Beckham are numerous. But said similarities have never been so apparent until now.

You could be forgiven for thinking that the glamorous celebrity pictured above is Victoria Beckham. From the statement sunglasses (a V.B 'Don't look at me! Look at me!' signature) and artfully tousled glossy brown tresses, to the immaculate dress coat and platformed pumps, she could be the fashion designer and mother-of-four.

But not so… Actress Kate Beckinsale, 38, on a promotional trip to New York, was so inspired by Beckham's ever-present glamour that she ended up copying every detail of her high-maintenance style.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this could be a case of stolen identity…

  • Fashion news 2012: Lady Gaga turns angry android for L'Uomo Vogue

    09 January 2012

Fashion news 2012 - Lady Gaga turns angry android for L'Uomo Vogue: Chameleon pop star Lady Gaga, gets a futuristic makeover for the January issue of men's fashion magazine, L'Uomo Vogue.

    Inez Van Lansweerde & Vinoodh Matadin/ L'Uomo Vogue 2012

Ever the queen of re-invention, Lady Gaga is starting to make our heads spin with her voracious appetite for extreme makeovers.

In the past few months alone we've had Donatella Versace Gaga, My Fair Lady Gaga, Brutal Bondage Gaga, Fairy On Top Of The Christmas Tree Gaga, Headless Gaga, Brothel Madam Gaga, and Gaga as her male alter-ego Joe Calderone

Her latest incarnation however sees the pop diva imagined as a sort of post-apocalyptic cyborg, courtesy of Italian men's fashion magazine, L'Uomo Vogue.

Photographed by Inez Van Lansweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, the cover and story inside the January issue sees Gaga stripped of her elaborate hair-pieces, heavily bronzed, freckle-faced and decorated with a number of elaborate robotic appendages about her face and body.

  • Fashion news 2012: Steven Meisel spoofs QVC for Vogue Italia

    09 January 2012

Fashion news 2012 - Steven Meisel spoofs QVC for Vogue Italia: Steven Meisel knows how to laugh at fashion: he's mocked advertisers for W magazine and has now turned his lens on the shopping network, QVC, for Vogue Italia.

    Steven-Meisel-spoofs-QVC-for-Vogue-Italia-2012

Steven Meisel's spoof of QVC, the TV shopping channel, is pitch-perfect: this is what television shopping would look like if the clothes were Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Prada and Gucci modelled by supermodels Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly and Karlie Kloss.

The shoot, called 'The Collections on IVC' appears in the February 2012 issue of Italian Vogue , and Meisel created this genius video on Vogue.it (complete with supermarket musak) to go alongside it.

"Graphic Glamour, customer favourite" the screen graphic says of Gucci's new collection, "Art Deco looks now available in gold black and white". Though the next line which reads "Payment installments now available", spells out that this really is fantasy land.

Vogue describes the shoot as "an artistically ironic simulation of telesales programs, nowadays much in vogue in the United States. Where cult garments and must-have accessories, from purses to shoes, to the most sophisticated jewellery, are presented by It-girls and chic ladies."

Luckily for our battered bank balances, shopping channels can only dream of being this chic.

  • Jewelry collection 2012 of Coco Rocha

    09 January 2012

Jewelry collection 2012 of Coco Rocha: Coco Rocha has always been different from other model girls. She has unique looks, strong personality, confidence to express her own opinion and an incredible talent to show her beauty in an unusual way. But if you think you know everything about her you are definitely mistaken. For example, do you know that Rocha can design jewelry? She has unveiled her first, and hope not the last, jewelry collection today in which every piece is more work of art than an ordinary jewelry piece.

    coco-rocha-jewelry-2012

Coco Rocha has worked under collaboration with a charitable organization Senhoa, which is based in Cambodia and intended to rescue and rehabilitate young women from the sex-trafficking trade. All the profits from the sale of Rocha’s jewelry collection will go towards the cause.

The pieces in Coco Rocha’s jewelry collection are all elaborate and bold, each a statement maker. And while they look really luxurious the prices are very reasonable starting at $65 for a bracelet, and up to $200. The only piece that is much more expensive is the $995 Rachany choker.

    coco-rocha-jewelry-2012-1

Speaking about how the collaboration was started Coco Rocha said:

Over the course of the next year [I] wore Senhoa jewelry pieces at various red carpet events. As I learned more about the issue of human trafficking and heard the particular stories of these girls that Senhoa assists I knew I wanted to do something more. So we decided that a jewelry collaboration was a great way to lend my voice to the cause.”

Rocha also added that she wanted to make the collection that would reflect her personal aesthetic:

I’m very picky about the jewelry I like to wear so this collection definitely reflects my personal aesthetic. I wanted to create a very fashion forward collection, but still incorporate the wonderful beading work the Senhoa women are known for. I also tried to create pieces that symbolize the Senhoa girl who is being empowered through the program.”

    coco-rocha-jewelry-2012-2

The Canadian model commented on why some of her jewelry pieces cost a lot of money:

I think when people learn about the wonderful cause these pieces support, they won’t feel bad about spending money. Our motto is “accessorize your conscience” and really, no one has a reason to feel guilty for treating themselves to one of these pieces!”

  • Fashion news 2012: Louboutin vs YSL - the battle rages on

    04 January 2012

Fashion news 2012 - Louboutin vs YSL- the battle rages on: YSL has hired 11 law professors from universities across the US to help them battle Christian Louboutin in the case of the red soles.

    Carrie-Bradshaw-Charlotte-York-wearing-red-soled-Louboutins

For those of us wishing for a peaceful New Year, both sides of the Louboutin versus Yves Saint Laurent case of the red soles have other ideas.

YSL has hired 11 law professors who teach, research and write about trademark law to defend their side.

The professors filed a brief with the Federal Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Tuesday saying Louboutin's arguments to protect his use of a single colour - red - in fashion "should be rejected in order to preserve freedom of innovation and competition."

According to WWD , the professors said Louboutin's side argued against the doctrine of "aesthetic functionality" which prevents companies from using "trademark as a kind of back door to perpetual patent-like protection for attractive but non-novel product features.…[If] the relevant consumers want a product feature because it is especially attractive, then that feature is not a proper subject of monopolisation by a single producer - unless it meets the demanding novelty requirement of design patent."

The legal experts went on: "A woman who buys red shoes is doing so for a reason - red shoes have a particular meaning to her, and to others, that cannot be supplied or even approximated by shoes of a different colour. Given the substantial creativity involved in both fashion design and fashion consumption, courts should not lightly allow one particular competitor to monopolise particular fashion submarket."

Louboutin and YSL have been embroiled in a legal battle over trademark infringement since last spring. Louboutin has made shoes with scarlet soles since 1992 when the designer saw an assistant painting her nails red.

On April 8th, Louboutin accused YSL of selling shoes with red soles, as part of their resort 2011 collection, that were "virtually identical" to his own, according to a suit filed in federal court in Manhattan. It sought a court injunction against the sale of the shoes and damages of at least $1 million.

Louboutin lost the first round in August when a judge ruled:

"Because in the fashion industry colour serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection, even if it has gained enough public recognition in the market to have acquired secondary meaning."

    04 January 2012

Fashion news 2012 -  Meryl Streep's designer handbagging in 'The Iron Lady': A Salvatore Ferragamo handbag which once belonged to Baroness Thatcher sold for £83,110 in 2000, so it is fitting that a similar style in black leather by the Italian luxury label should be cast in the Thatcher biopic, The Iron Lady .

    Meryl-Streep-shoes-handbag-2012

This picture shoes Meryl Streep as Marget Thatcher wearing Salvatore Ferragamo pumps and handbag

Meryl Streep, who plays the former British prime minister can be seen toting the practical but chic Ferragamo handbag in the film directed by Phyllida Lloyd, which hits cinema screens on Friday, January 6.

Thatcher once described her handbag as the only safe place in Downing Street, and it became a symbol of her style of government. An Asprey style which she famously owned for over three decades fetched £25,000 at auction in June 2011, and was bought by an unnamed Cypriot who is understood to have been a student in Britain during Lady Thatcher's tenure as prime minister.

Streep's feet were also decked in the Florentine brand's 'Carla' pump (priced around £295), an elegant court shoe of moderate heel height, topped off with a grosgrain ribbon and logo plate detailing along the toes.

  • Fashion news 2012: David Beckham reveals his H&M underwear range

    04 January 2012

Fashion news 2012 - David Beckham reveals his H&M underwear range: Long johns, briefs and T-shirts form part of footballer David Beckham's first collection for the high street retailer, which goes on sale on February 2.

    David-Beckham-reveals-his-HM-underwear-2012

It's not the first time we've seen David Beckham in nothing but his undies - his adverts for Emporio Armani introduced us to this concept - but this is a first for seeing Becks sporting his self-designed pieces.

The LA Galaxy midfielder is following in the stylish footsteps of his fashion designer wife Victoria, teaming up with Swedish retailer H&M to produce a nine-piece collection of bodywear. But while Victoria lets professional models reveal her designs, her husband is proving to be the perfect model and ambassador for his own work.

"I always want to challenge myself and this was such a rewarding experience for me. I'm very happy with the end result and I hope H&M's male customers will be as excited as I am" said Beckham.

The 36-year-old father-of-four has worked closely with his design team to create a covetable and discreetly branded range of cotton briefs, boxer shorts, vests, T-shirts, pyjamas and long johns, inspired by pieces from his own wardrobe. Much attention to detail has been paid providing comfort - such as labels that do not scratch and seams which don't rub against the body.

"Collectively with my design team we spent time working on the feel, fit and style to ensure the product is not only something I would wear but one which I would be proud to put my name to" added Beckham.

This first instalment, which will be available in stores on online from February 2, marks an ongoing partnership between David Beckham and H&M, and will develop seasonally.

  • Women's Sunglasses Trends For Spring-Summer 2012

    04 January 2012

Sunglasses Trends For Spring-Summer 2012: To always look voguish and perfectly polished you have to follow a few simple rules. First of all, you should keep up with the latest fashion trends. Second, you should know what particular style, shape and colors suit your complexion, facial features, silhouettes and personality at the best. And last but not least, you should know the art of incorporating the hottest trends into your unique peculiarities in mind. So let’s start with the first task – getting acquainted with the hottest trends of the moment. You have probably already read our posts about SS 2012 Fashion Trends, SS 2012 Color Trends and SS 2012 Shoe Trends.

    Sunglasses-Trends-For-Spring-Summer-2012

Sunglasses have always played a great role in building up one’s style. Besides having the feature of protecting your eyes from harmful sunrays, they can inject an interest and modish flair into your overall look, therefore it’s no surprise that designers present new innovative and creative options every season. With the sunny season ahead, designers have already revealed their fashion views on spring/summer 2012 eyewear trends, bringing a rich variety of sunglasses, from extremely extravagant and stylish to more traditional and even classic variants. We have summarized the new spring/summer 2012 sunglasses trends into six major categories to let you easily concentrate on what style you’d like to sport in the new season. So here are all the six sunglasses trends:
Cat eye sunglasses have been in vogue already for a couple of seasons and they will still be hot in spring/summer 2012. This type of eyewear comes in various shapes and colors this year and can be very playful or even more austere.

Sunglasses in quirky shapes are new in fashion, however many designers do their best to quickly popularize them. Think heart, oval or diamond-shaped eyewear this season, if you want to look fresh, innovative and a little bit funny. This type of eyewear is best for attracting massive attention.

Round glasses have become classic and they are worn by such big names, as Elton John and Lady Gaga. For spring/summer 2012 round sunglasses don’t come as simple as always. Frames and lens will feature different shades and frames will sometimes even use interesting patterns and will be encrusted with jewels.

Sporty sunglasses are perhaps the most practical options and they are always trendy for people, who like to wear sunglasses while doing cycling or running. For spring/summer 2012, expect this trend to be popular not only with sportsmen, but generally with everyone.

Sunglasses with gradient lens are not that new in fashion and from time to time designers refer to them in their collections. Spring/Summer 2012 is right the time for this style.

Contract sunglasses are another gorgeous trend for the upcoming warm season. They are especially good for all those, who like contrasts but feel that color blocking is too much for them. Contract sunglasses look especially creative, when the frame and lens come in different and often quite contrasting shades.

  • Fashion news 2012: Louis Vuitton issues The Hangover Part II with a lawsuit

    02 January 2012

Fashion news 2012 - Louis Vuitton issues The Hangover Part II with a lawsuit: The luxury luggage giant is suing Warner Bros. over their use of counterfeit Louis Vuitton bags in The Hangover Part II.

Here's a lawsuit that will need to be combated with something stronger than a pack of Resolve: luxury fashion label Louis Vuitton are claiming that the film The Hangover Part II featured imitations of their branded luggage, and that the studio were aware that the bags used were counterfeits.

Womens Wear Daily report that Vuitton pleaded with Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc not to use the fakes produced by Diophy, a company that the label is presently suing before the International Trade Commission.

    Louis-Vuitton-The-Hangover-Part-II

In the hit comedy, Zach Galifianakis's eccentric character Alan totes a Louis Vuitton-esque monogrammed duffle bag patterned with the letters LVM rather than LV, and says to his co-star: "Careful, that is a Louis Vuitton."

Galifianakis mis-pronounces the French label, which has caused further upset to Vuitton, who claim it may cause "consumer confusion".

The plaintiff, filed in the Southern District of New York, is seeking profits from the film - which grossed around $580 million, and triple damages. Warner Bros. are also being asked to destroy all promotional materials that include the airport scene with the counterfeit bag.

"We are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our first child together," the Victoria's Secret Angel and her husband, Caleb Followill, lead singer for Kings of Leon told People magazine on Thursday.

"We can't wait to meet the new addition to our family," they added.

The couple, who met at the Coachella music festival in 2007, tied the knot in California in May.

That makes two pregnant Angels, and three recent mothers (Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes and Adriana Lima) walking down the runway in their underwear for Victoria's Secret.

Ambrosio told US Weekly that she had considered pulling out of the show when she found out she was expecting her second child.

"When I first found out I was pregnant I thought, 'Oh my gosh I don't think I'm going to be able to walk on the show,' and I didn't tell anybody so no one knew at the show that I was pregnant," she said. "A week before, I told my booker I don't think I'm going to be able to fit into the clothes because I gained a few pounds already, but we were just quiet. I cut all the sugars and sweets 10 days before and I got my trainer - the one I usually get - and we were doing lots of glutes and arms and back exercises."

  • Latest Men’s Fashion Trends For Spring-Summer 2012

    02 January 2012

Latest Men’s Fashion Trends For Spring-Summer 2012: Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion for men is going to be very interesting. The color scheme won’t be limited to typical men’s colors and will extend to bold orange and vivid blue. Monochromatic look is to be really hot but combinations of hues (even daring combinations!) will also be welcome. Safest colors are camel and white.

    Men-Fashion-Trends-For-Spring-Summer-2012

If we talk about trendy prints, it is worth mentioning they will come in a variety but plaid and stripes will be among favorites. For vacation time you can go for Hawaiian patterns.

White shirt is a versatile item which can look elegant or very casual depending on the way you choose to sport it. Wear it tucked in a great pair of trousers with a matching jacket and classic shoes and you are ready for a business meeting. Wear it loose or with one side tucked in David Beckham’s style with a pair of jeans and you look quite differently yet stylish.

    Men-Fashion-Trends-For-Spring-Summer-2012-1

Oversized pants are still in for Spring/ Summer 2012. This trend seems to be very popular with both men and women. For hotter days look for a nice pair of shorts which can be worn with a suit jacket or a tee, with or without suspenders.

    Men-Fashion-Trends-For-Spring-Summer-2012-3

In the shoe area changes are few. Of course, classic shoes are top trendy. But if you are not an austere suit guy you can go for a pair of fringed loafers instead, or comfy sandals if you prefer wearing a t-shirt and cutoffs as a daily outfit. Also try rangers and neo-creepers to be in style.

Men’s Spring/ Summer 2012 accessory trends include a good watch, the more expensive the better, a scarf that can be both colorful and monotone, funky sunglasses and a purse

  • Women's Hairstyle 2012: Easy Party Hairstyle Ideas

    27 December 2011

Women's Hairstyle 2012 - Easy Party Hairstyle Ideas - Latest Party Hairstyle Trends 2012: It’s definitely easier to imagine various creative hairstyles, if you have long gorgeous locks. Don’t go for too complicated options, just use a simple curling iron and some hair spray and your marvelous look is ready in just a few minutes.

    Easy-Party-Hairstyle-2012

You can sport messy or dressy waves with a subtle rock ‘n’ roll effect, or go for super-chic and glam curls, taking into consideration your style and preferences. To get the relaxed style, start wrapping random, sections of your tresses around the barrel with a curling iron. Shake it all up with your fingers and apply some hair spray to guarantee the long lasting fixation of you party hairstyle.
It’ll certainly be impressive to try the old Hollywood sophisticated look with some glossy, cascading waves. To get this effect, first apply some hold spray and start wrapping your hair sections around the curling iron. Make sure to pin into place each rolled section. Once your hair is cooled down, remove the pins and style your hair using a bristle brush. For the ultimate seductive allure, make a deep side parting. You can also get this effect by setting the parting in the center and finally applying some shine serum.

Make a show-stopping entrance with a mesmerizing Brigitte Bardot half updo. It’s extremely easy to obtain this look: just use some voluminising mousse and backcomb the hair at the top of your head. Brush the tomb layer carefully and apply some hold spray, loosely pulling back the upper part of your tresses. Finally secure it at the back with some pins or a precious hair comb. It’s equally interesting to try a lovely half updo. Make soft waves first and a small center parting. Afterwards, secure the hair in the back with a delicate hair pin, leaving a few face-framing flyaways, which will soften your look.
If you like to combine comfort with chicness, and don’t want to stray away from your timeless, versatile ponytail, you can still create a nice ‘do for special occasions. There are so many interesting ways to wear your ponytail. You can upgrade this style into an elegant, backcombed pony by taking a hair section and wrapping it around the pony’s base. If you want to really impress, try a side fishtail braid, adding a nice vibe to your overall look. For a glossy effect, think a higher pony at the crown, finally creating a fishtail braid.

  • Fashion news 2011: Best-Dressed Celebrities of 2011

    26 December 2011

Fashion news 2011 - Best-Dressed Celebrities of 2011: It’s the end of the year and Vogue as well as many other fashion magazines makes its own list of Best-Dressed Celebrities of 2011. The list includes only 10 women but they are crème-la-crème of contemporary celebrity society.

Some women believe that if they could afford expensive designer clothing they would automatically look perfect and get all the attention on the red carpet. This isn’t always true. And worst-dressed celebrity lists drawn on the regular basis prove that. To look good you need something else – a good fashion sense and unique style. Celebrities mentioned below have both, and this explains why Vogue put them on the first ten positions of 2011 Best-Dressed list.

    Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley-Best-Dressed-Celebrities-2011

    1. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Check out Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s model profile and photos) deserves to top the 2011 Best-Dressed list. She might not be the best actress but she is good at choosing and wearing clothes. She always looks fantastic both on the red carpet and in everyday life.

    Duchess-of-Cambridge-Best-Dressed-Celebrities-2011

    2. Duchess of Cambridge has had to go through a lot of difficulties to get to the position she occupies now. But she did that with grace. Catherine looks elegant and sophisticated no matter what she wears: a luxurious designer gown or an inexpensive dress she has bought in a high street store.

    Kirsten-Dunst-Best-Dressed-Celebrities-2011

    3. Kirsten Dunst hasn’t been very fashionable throughout the years but this year she has made an effort and now her every red carpet appearance is a hit.

    Blake-Lively-Best-Dressed-Celebrities-2011

    4. Blake Lively has become a real red carpet star this year and a regular on Best-Dressed Celebrity Lists. She is invited to nearly all more or less important events and every time she arrives she steals the limelight from other celebrities. Keep that, Blake, and good luck!

    Emma-Stone-Best-Dressed-Celebrities-2011

    Victoria-Beckham-Best-Dressed-Celebrities-2011

    Anne-Hathaway-Best-Dressed-Celebrities-2011

    9. Anne Hathaway is one of very few stars who NEVER looks bad both on the red carpet and in real life. She knows her assets and dresses to flatter those. Besides, let’s not remember her Oscar hosting when she changed over ten outfits without a single faux pas!

  • Fashion news 2011: Freja-Free Chanel Spring 2012 Ad Campaign

    26 December 2011

Fashion news 2011 - Freja-Free Chanel Spring 2012 Ad Campaign: Chanel Spring/ Summer 2012 ad campaign does not feature Freja Beha Erichsen, which is good because we have already got tired of her. Instead, gorgeous Joan Smalls and Saskia de Brauw star the images. Both girls look great in simple white clothing from the brand’s Spring 2012 collection.

    Chanel-Spring-2012-Ad-Campaign

I couldn’t wait till the first image of Chanel Spring/ Summer 2012 ad campaign released. It was reported Freja Beha Erichsen, who used to be Karl Kagerfeld’s muse for five years in succession, would no longer star in it. That was good for me. I don’t like Freja’s androgynous look. Saskia de Brauw and especially Joan Smalls, who are the new faces of the brand, are much more feminine and attractive.

    Chanel-Spring-2012-Ad-Campaign-1

Describing Chanel Spring/ Summer 2012 ad campaign back in October Karl Lagerfeld said it would be “all about athletics and the sea… It’s very modern sportif and in black-and-white.” And now from two photos already leaked online we see what he meant. The campaign looks great. I like the change from chic to simplicity though I don’t really think such images can reflect Chanel’s luxurious Indian-inspired collection.

Photographed at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France the campaign looks rather understated with Saskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls on parallel bars. They look wonderful though, considering the fact it must have been really tense holding their own weight on hands only. Another photo features Saskia sailing by on a rope swing.

  • Fashion news 2011: Meet Hollywood's superstar stylists

    19 December 2011

Fashion news 2011 - Meet Hollywood's superstar stylists: Who makes Hilary hot, Cate cutting-edge, and Hailee the hippest teenager in town? Meet the women behind the red carpet looks of the world's most fashionable stars.

    Hollywood-superstar-stylists-2012

Gill (above) has worked her magic on actresses such as Kate Winslet, Hilary Swank, Jane Fonda and Abbie Cornish. Born in Britain, she studied at Kingston University and landed in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, having worked for Jean Paul Gaultier and Martin Margiela in Paris and styled shoots for magazines such as The Face and Arena.

    Tanya-Gill-and-Hilary-Swank -superstar-stylists-2012

    Tanya-Gill-and-Hilary-Swank -superstar-stylists-2012

Gill, who is in her early forties, often works with designers to dress actresses in custom-made creations. It was she who put 73-year-old Jane Fonda in that daring Emilio Pucci number, with its strategically placed mesh panels, for the Cannes Film Festival last year. 'It covered just enough, but it still was beautiful and made her look so elegant and so youthful. She was glowing. '

Over the past decade Gill has seen red-carpet dressing go from something actresses approached with a heavy heart - even wearing an outfit from their own wardrobes - to a vital part of how they're marketed. 'They just want to look their best, and no one wants to get on the worst-dressed lists,' she says. 'You have to look a particular way if you want to be considered for certain roles. There has to be a standard in how you look. That's why [actresses] have been choosing to work with stylists, whereas 10 years ago they didn't do that so much.'

    Star turn: Hilary Swank
For the 2011 Oscars, Tanya Gill dressed Hilary Swank in a sparkling, strapless silver Gucci Première gown with a skirt and train of ostrich feathers. 'Gucci had just launched Première [its couture line] in the USA, so it was a big moment. The creative director worked with me and their tailor for a couple of weeks beforehand,' says Gill. 'We just knew that dress was the one.' Gill pinned orchid-shaped diamond earrings by Anna Hu into Swank's hair. 'She felt so special. Everything just came together,' she says.

    ELIZABETH STEWART
Elizabeth Stewart took a winding route to red-carpet dressing, having first honed her skills as a fashion editor for Women's Wear Daily and W magazine, in both New York and Paris, and later at the New York Times Magazine. But since segueing into styling, she has dressed a stellar cast of actresses, including Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams and Julia Roberts, as well as emerging stars such as Freida Pinto, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence.

    Cate-Blanchett-and-Jessica-Chastain-superstar-stylists-2012

    Cate-Blanchett-and-Jessica-Chastain-superstar-stylists-2012

Stewart, 47, says that her time in Paris in particular influenced her style; it was there that she would visit designers' couture ateliers, seeing close up how pieces were made. 'Understanding how much work goes into one red-carpet dress makes me really careful when choosing a dress for the Oscars,' says Stewart, who is known for creating looks of a chic simplicity. 'We often have a lot of choices and I know how lucky that is, and how much [work] is behind every choice we have to hand.'

Stewart sees her role as 'channelling into' an actress's style. 'It's very important to me to incorporate that,' she says. 'I just bring my taste to it. The best way to start is to meet [an actress] to try things on and learn what works on their body and what they like. Celebrity stylists exist less because actresses need to be made over and more because it's simply physically impossible between shooting and doing press interviews for an individual to get the 30 outfits she needs for any given press tour.'

A typical day for Stewart might be spent on a shoot, doing fittings or travelling with an actress, and she says that one of the highlights of her work is seeing emerging talent evolve into stars. 'With my younger clients it's incredible to be along for the ride from unknown to famous,' she says.

That said, she is quick to dismiss the notion of overnight success. 'I'm often working with [a new actress] for a year before they become known.'

    Star turn: Cate Blanchett
Elizabeth Stewart's choice for Cate Blanchett at this year's Oscars - a pastel-pink couture dress by Riccardo Tisci, the creative director of Givenchy - won the actress a place at the top of the best-dressed lists. 'The pink Givenchy is one of my favourite Oscar moments, because I truly felt only Cate could wear that dress,' says Stewart.

    KEMAL & KARLA
Kemal Harris and Karla Welch have spent the past six years dressing a gaggle of young Hollywood actresses, among them Olivia Wilde and Zooey Deschanel. Yet it wasn't until this year that the pair became widely known, having put the 14-year-old Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, the star of True Grit , in a series of beautiful yet youthful gowns for her awards-season debut.

'We were very conscious that Steinfeld needed to look her age and be dressed appropriately,' says Welch, 37. She and Harris, who is 40, called in dresses from Prada, Marchesa and Prabal Gurung, an up-and-coming New York designer, and often tailored the designs to fit the actress's tiny frame.

    Kemal-Harris-and-Karla-Welch-superstar-stylists-2012

    Kemal-Harris-and-Karla-Welch-superstar-stylists-2012

Welch acknowledges that transforming an actress for the red carpet is 'very strategic… Most of the girls we work with realise they're a product. The people in the room at the events they attend are giving them their jobs… How they look will result in what kind of business they get.'

The day after Steinfeld appeared at the Golden Globes in a white Prabal Gurung halterneck gown, Prada contacted the stylists, offering its services. Soon afterwards the company named Steinfeld the face of Miu Miu, its younger line, for spring 2011.

For Harris and Welch, who have also styled actresses for the pages of The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine, working with a newcomer is a collaborative process. 'We'll talk about what they're promoting and what they would like their image to be,' says Welch, who is based in Los Angeles (Harris lives in New York). 'You learn their silhouette, what kind of shapes work best and how far one person can experiment. We envisage where we'd like to go with the person and then start calling in looks from designers.'

Gowns are usually altered by the pair's 'amazing' tailor. 'Some girls can slip on anything, but others can't,' says Welch. 'When people look amazing on the red carpet it's because the clothes fit well.'

    Star turn: Hailee Steinfeld
'We saved Hailee's little princess moment for the Oscars,' says Karla Welch, of Kemal & Karla, referring to the pink tulle Marchesa confection Hailee Steinfeld wore to the awards ceremony. 'We discussed ideas and looked at pictures.

It wasn't going to be edgy, just pretty and special,' says Welch. 'We worked with the Marchesa team up until the last moment.' For the Vanity Fair after-party, Steinfeld swapped her pink Salvatore Ferragamo heels for red Converse baseball boots. 'When you're 14 years old and you make it to the Oscars you can wear whatever you want on your feet,' says Welch.

    JESSICA PASTER
Jessica Paster was one of the original crop of stylists to swoop on Hollywood and the awards ceremonies in the late 1990s. Her client list runs the gamut from Annette Bening and Kate Beckinsale to Dakota and Elle Fanning, Emily Blunt and Andrea Riseborough.

For Paster, 35, it's important to make sure that she and the actresses have what she calls 'fashion chemistry' . 'You're spending so much time with them - you're doing fittings, you're in their lives quite a bit once they're promoting a movie,' she says. 'You have to see if your personalities mesh. And you have to see if your style meshes with theirs. I'm lucky [as] the girls I work with have a very good fashion eye and that's very helpful.'

    Jessica-Paster-Andrea-Riseborough-superstar-stylists-2012

    Jessica-Paster-Andrea-Riseborough-superstar-stylists-2012

Paster is frank about the workaday aspects of the job. 'A typical day begins at seven o'clock in the morning and ends at nine at night,' she says. 'If you think it's about lunches and having a good time… no. We're pulling clothes and pulling clothes,'

she says, referring to all the appointments stylists make with designers and public-relations firms before settling on the star gown.

It is, she says, a 'big, huge business' and one of its more tiresome sides is the way designers' PRs try to dictate who can and can't wear what. 'Nowadays a publicity company's favourite word is no,' says Paster. 'Back [in 1998] I remember calling directory inquiries and getting Alexander McQueen's number, and Mr McQueen himself sent me a dress for an unknown actress.' The then unknown actress was Minnie Driver, who went on to wear McQueen's shimmering, corseted mermaid gown for Givenchy to the Golden Globes.

Despite the politics, Paster continues to conjure up dazzling dresses for clients. She has recently dressed Emily Blunt in Elie Saab haute couture and Dakota Fanning in a Valentino tulle ball-gown sprinkled with dozens of flower appliqués. 'I've been doing this for 16 years, so I must love it to deal with all the craziness that goes on,' she says.

    Star turn: Andrea Riseborough (above)
'This was her big red-carpet moment and I wanted it to be very special,' says Jessica Paster of the John Galliano for Christian Dior haute couture gown Andrea Riseborough wore to the première of W.E. in Venice. 'I'm such a fan of John Galliano. And with that dress he did such a beautiful, beautiful job.'
